Our Family

Family Dog

Family Dog

Our family and friends are very supportive of our decision to adopt. They can’t wait to be aunts, uncles, Grandmas and Grandpas to a child who doesn’t have 4 legs.

Today, our family consists of the two of us and our min-pin, Freeway. Much of our life is centered around this little guy and he is very spoiled by his “mom and dad”. He’s 10 years old, was diagnosed with both diabetes and Cushing’s disease last year, and has lost about 90-95% of his sight. But he still gets around very well.

He looks to us to manage his diet and meds. He gets 2 insulin shots per day, along with 2 pills a day and another pill every 5 days. We sometimes already feel like we have a child with this little guy, as we need a babysitter for him if we go out for more than an hour or so. But, that’s when he gets to go spend time with “Grandma and Grandpa”, so that’s ok too!! Did I mention he’s a little spoiled? But, he’s our boy!! He’s wonderful with children and loves when our 3 nieces and 3 nephews come over to play.

Our Home

Our Home

Our Home

Our home is a 3 bedroom ranch with a full finished basement on just shy of an acre of property. You can’t quite see from the pictures how big our yard is, but there is a 24 foot above ground pool there behind the garage. There’s still enough room for a volleyball game to go on behind that as well as the horseshoe pits.

We spend a lot of time outside enjoying our large yard, gardening, having friends and family over for barbeques and bon fires and/or just relaxing in the pool.

About Michael

Michael

Michael

Michael graduated from Eastern University earning his Bachelor’s Degree with Magna Cum Laude Honors in Paralegal Studies. He then went on to complete his Master’s Degree in Regulatory Studies at Northeastern University.

During the day, he is a regulatory consultant. What this means is that he helps people and companies get FDA approval on new medical drugs and devices through clinical trials. He does this out of our home office and this will give us the luxury of having at least one parent at home pretty much full time with our new baby.

In addition, he is also an adjunct professor at Eastern Michigan University, teaching courses in regulatory two evenings a week.

About Tami

Tami

Tami

After high school, Tami took some college courses through Henry Ford Community College under the paralegal program. During this time, she had moved in with her elderly Grandmother, who had struggled with diabetes all her life and, later, with dementia. Tami took care of her grandmother and attended night classes to assist her with her position as a legal secretary. Although not finishing her degree, at present Tami manages the office for a busy personal injury attorney in the Detroit Metro area as a legal assistant.

Tami has always enjoyed singing and worked part-time for a karaoke company for over ten years. In doing so, she was able to hang out with her friends doing something she loved, singing, and getting paid for it!! She’s done some studio recording and has even sang live with a band in Nashville. In fact, the owner of Jessie Zane’s Nashville Nights has told her she’s welcome to come back and sing with the band anytime that she’s in town.

Tami loves to sing and even sang to Michael on their wedding day. She longs to have a child to sing a lullaby to. She wants to make the memories, as she did with her own mother and grandmothers, of singing with her child some day.

It all started when…

Michael and Tami met on September 23, 2003. From the moment we met, we have been connected in ways words cannot explain. This was aided by the fact that we had so much in common, from our likes of the outdoors, to sports, music and even our choices in careers. As you read above, we both have strong legal backgrounds and found common ground there as a basis of our friendship and later in our commitment to one another for life.

On June 11, 2005, we became husband and wife. We are the best of friends and enjoy a healthy and strong marriage. A lot of the reason behind that is our strong love and commitment to family and one another.

From the time we got engaged, we knew we did not want to wait to start a family. Already in our late thirties, we knew we would have an uphill battle to have children. After two years of trying to conceive, we got pregnant only to miscarry at 9 weeks. Given our ages, we began fertility treatments – a long, emotional and sometimes devastating experience. After 4 rounds of IUI with no luck, we were at a loss, but we still wanted our family. We found out we were pregnant again, only to lose it to another miscarriage. We have always dreamed of being parents and doing all the wonderful things families do together. So, after 6 years of trying to become parents, we are not giving up and hope that through adoption we will have the family we’ve dreamed of for so long.

Our life together …

Bahamas

Bahamas

Over the years we have developed many interests. We love to travel. We went to the Bahamas for our honeymoon (swimming with the dolphins was so much fun), have been to Florida and Maine to visit family and friends a couple of times and travel to Nashville every summer.
Michael plays hockey, in the goalie position, and participates in tournaments in Nashville, TN; Kalamazoo, MI; Traverse City, MI; Lansing, MI and wherever the new  tournament might be. And our love of sports doesn’t stop there.

We are huge Detroit Red Wing fans, Detroit Tiger fans and football fans!!

But, family comes first for Michael and Tami. We always try to take the extra time to see if everyone is okay. For us, there is nothing better than being at home, cuddling together and a new baby will just snuggle right into our lives. Below are pictures of Michael playing Santa to the nieces and nephews. Michael teaching a nephew to skate. Tami skating and Tami with her brother-in-law and oldest niece.
